Tamarind Tough Kid is All About the Kids

This year every Ulti Team member is encouraged to have a paid half day off to help a charity. The 2019 Tamarind Tough Kid was held at the AMP Showgrounds in Hawera on Friday 29th November, and Simeon and Scott from the Hawera Ulti Team were pleased to use their Ulti Charity Leave to be volunteers onsite that day, to ensure every kid had a great time.

The event involved year 5-8 students from schools all over Taranaki taking on a giant obstacle course at the Hawera A & P Showgrounds on the 29th November. This super fun event sees the kids climb over, under and through all sorts of obstacles, including cargo net crawl, tunnels, tyre pit, truck jump, hill hurdles, scaffold tower, stairs and more, all generously donated by local businesses. They then dunk themselves in water tanks and are sprayed by the fire brigade as they race down, what promises to be, the favourite obstacle of the day – the super slippery slide.

DSC-0895Terry Long the Sport Taranaki Event Organiser said, “the goal of the event is to get kids more active more often”. It is a fun, participation event involving around 1,800 students having the chance to have a go at the 2km obstacle course, have some fun, and get out and meet new people. Students get to do the course twice, firstly as an individual and then in a team of four.

DSC-0352RRT (Rapid Relief Team) was invited to participate in the community event to ensure no child went hungry, on what could be one of their most memorable days of their school year. Supplying a variety of healthy food  to the 1,800 students and teachers at no cost.
